Dr. de la Fuente is a veterinarian who has specialized in reproductive physiology and assisted reproductive techniques in the horse. Dr. de la Fuente is a native of Chile, South America where he graduated from veterinary school. He then continued his studies and research at the University of Cordoba, Spain which allowed him to obtain the DVM degree from both universities.
He moved to Davis in 2015 to attend graduate school at UC Davis and pursue a M.Sc. degree in Animal Biology followed by a PhD degree in Reproductive Physiology. During his doctorate research, he investigated the physiology of oocyte (egg) maturation in the horse. These studies have allowed us to increase our understanding of changes occurring in the oocytes during this critical event in the development of the oocyte.
He currently works as the chief embryologist of the UC Davis Veterinary Assisted Reproduction Laboratory, where he continues to expand his research in oocyte maturation and early embryo development trying to find new ways to optimize in vitro systems for oocyte maturation and embryo culture.
