Randy was born into a ranching family in a remote area of central Arizona and has been working with horses for most of his life. After graduating from high school in Jerome, Arizona in 1972, Randy became a member of the US Air Force and served until 1976.
Randy Helm is a certified horse trainer with Lyons Legacy and has been training wild horses for over 30 years. He developed the current training program for the Arizona State Prison in Florence, where he serves as the supervisor of the Wild Horse Inmate Program. The prison has over 600 horses and provides training for the U.S. Border Patrol, ranchers, individuals, and law enforcement agencies.
The success of his training program for inmates and horses has been featured on local, national, international news, and documentaries including ABC, NBC, USA Today, Animal Planet, French National Television, Swiss TV, and numerous others.
In 2012, Randy was hired to develop and supervise the Wild Horse Inmate Program for Arizona State Prison. The program focused not only on training horses but training people and the parallels between the horse and the inmate. The Wild Horse Inmate Program has attained national and international attention in news stories, magazines, and documentaries.
Currently, Randy lives in Coolidge, Arizona, with his beautiful wife Libby. Randy and Libby have 5 adult children, three dogs, and three horses. He is an instrument-rated pilot, avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman.
