Attending the Expo

Etiquette

Guidelines to Help Everyone Have a Fun and Rewarding Experience

We want all our guests to enjoy their time spent at our event. Whether you have attended the Horse Expo every year since 1999 or are joining us for the first time, the Horse Expo staff has put together these guidelines to help everyone have a fun and rewarding experience.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted at the Western States Horse Expo. If you are camping, your pets must stay confined within your assigned campsite and must always be leashed or in a kennel. Please be respectful of your fellow neighbors and other guests in attendance and clean up after your dog and maintain control of your pet.

Outside Food & Beverages

Guests can bring in outside snacks and non-alcoholic drinks that fit inside your day bag or can be held. We ask you to refrain from bringing in glass containers and to please carry out or dispose of any trash in the properly marked receptacles located throughout the venue. Ice chest and coolers are prohibited.

Recommended Attire

We recommend dressing comfortably with closed-toe shoes or boots that you don’t mind being on your feet in. Although there will be many seating areas & bleachers, these can get full quickly so be prepared to stand (or sit in your chair!) if necessary. The Murieta Equestrian Center is an outdoor venue and while most events are located under cover to protect from the rain, wind & sun- there is no indoor space with heating or air conditioning. Please keep an eye on the weather for any day you plan on attending and dress accordingly, layers are highly recommended if you plan on staying all day.

When to Arrive

Don’t like crowds? Show up early, especially on Friday & Saturday! Although we do our best to keep things moving as quickly as possible, we recommend showing up at least 30 minutes before the start of any event you wish to see to avoid getting lost, stuck in traffic and to ensure you secure a great seat! Also to expedite your entry to the event, we recommend you buy your tickets online and bring your ticket email with QR code so we can scan and go!

Parking

We will have one Public Parking lot. This lot is located in a large grass field behind the main Murieta Equestrian Center facility (near the airport). Access to this lot will be on Murieta Drive and will be clearly marked and manned. The exit to the lot will be off Cantova Way to prevent any congestion on Lone Pine Drive. During the event, the two entry points to the MEC facility will be shut down to the public. For this reason please make sure you use the stop light at Murieta Drive for access to the event, not Lone Pine Drive.

What to Bring to Horse Expo

To maximize your experience, we recommend bring the following items with you:

  • Pen & Notepad to take notes- especially if you plan on attending any of our University Seminars.
  • Large fannypack/backpack/tote- Although you will get a heavy-duty shopping bag upon entry with your Horse Expo Program, we do recommend bringing additional (and hands free if possible) packs that you can use to help store any other educational materials, samples, candy and literature that you will receive from vendors.
  • Hats/Sunglasses/Sunscreen- especially if it is a sunny day!
  • A Chair! Yes, bring your favorite camping chair, lawn chair or picnic basket from home- you can even check it in at the Park Your Packages area while not in use!
Park Your Package

Have a large item that you purchased or to many bags that you don’t want to carry around all day? You’re in luck! A “Park Your Package” station will be available to all shoppers and guests, so they may check-in their bags/packages and pick-up later in the day. There is no fee for this service, just tips that benefit All About Equine Animal Rescue. Park Your Packages will be located at the Show Office right next to the Murieta Cafe.
