Disasters, emergencies, and accidents are things we all hope to avoid- but being prepared is essential. Whether you’re dealing with wildfires, severe weather, evacuations, or accidents on the road, having a plan in place can save both you and your animals’ lives.

Join us at the Horse Expo for important sessions dedicated to trailer safety, emergency planning, and disaster response. Julie Atwood, founder of the HALTER Project, will lead sessions focused on the safety and welfare of both you and your animals. The HALTER Project, established in 2013, is designed to connect a global audience of animal owners, caregivers, and first responders to reduce risk to humans and their animals during emergencies and natural disasters.

UC Davis veterinarians, Dr. Claudia Sonder and Dr. Briana Hamamoto, will also be presenting sessions on how to prepare you and your horse for potential disasters. Dr. Sonder is currently the President of Napa Community Animal Response Team and California Community Animal Response Teams. Dr. Hamamoto was heavily involved with the Veterinary Emergency Response Team (VERT) as well as the Northern California Association of Equine Practitioners Emergency Response Team. She gained valuable experience through her time with these organizations and responded to multiple major wildfires in Northern California.

If you’re a young horse enthusiast or seasoned with disasters, these sessions are packed with essential insights to help you and your barn be ready when it matters most. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from the experts and make sure that you and your horses are prepared for whatever comes your way.
