Sierra Nevada Hounds

Maintaining Hunt Traditions, Dedicated to Humane Predator Control

sierra-nevada-hounds-logo

At the Sierra Nevada Hounds Hunt Club, we strive to maintain the traditions of riding to hounds. We sport the scarlet and black coats that you see in the old hunt prints. We keep 14 or more couple of Walker and American Foxhounds in our kennels.

Sierra Nevada Hounds is a new hunt and only the second fox hunt in Nevada. Established in 2023, the hunt is based in Reno, Nevada. We are committed to humane non-lethal predator control. Killing quarry is not a hunt objective. Sierra Nevada Hounds has adopted the principles of humane non-lethal predator control, meaning it is a “no kill” hunt.

Humane control is based on the idea that predator and prey animals rightly exist in an ecological balance, and that humans, domestic animals, and wildlife can and should co-exist. This balance relies in part on predators’ natural fear of humans. Urban and rural coyotes are becoming increasingly bold in the presence of humans. Rather than killing them, reinforcing their fear of humans in an effective alternative for managing predator threat. Riding through open land with hounds has proven an effective and harmless deterrent.
